Should you be able to play pro basketball straight from high school?

Please add details to your answers for 10 extra points

Should you be able to play pro basketball straight from high school?nba street

yeah if you want to and not get an education. it is stupid to because you can get hurt and end you carrier and then what would you do?

Should you be able to play pro basketball straight from high school?nba news ,nba teams

If you're good enough I don't think age should ever matter. If a 10 year old kick a** on the court then let them in the NBA!
No i think each player should do atleast 2 years of college, infact it should be a requirement to have an associates degree instead of just a diploma.

Just my own opinion.
no, i think they should do it like football, collegegrads!!
i know i am in the minority on this one but i say no.. i like how they have to go tocollegefor 1 year as the rule is now.. the majority of high school players drafted dont pan out and never become a solid nba player.. it is just too hard of a transition from high school to the pros.. of course there are exceptions: kobe, kg, lebron, etc.. but there are far more players who needed college: robert swift, johnathan bender, eddy curry, tyson chandler, etc..
Yes. If someone can go fight in a war straight out of high school, then they should be able to play basketball.
I think you shouldn't because if you were great at basketball and bad in school, you might get drafted and be the dumbest ***** around. you should be required to go tocollegebecause that wold show the real players who would be willing to go to college, get and education and living out their dream of playing in the NBA. if you could go straight from high school, the NBA would have many more discipline problems, due to having immature athletes roaming around. not to mention, many "thugs" would be in the NBA.
No, I don't care how good you are, you obviously still lack the fundamentals of the game. Going tocollegeand playingcollegebasketball for at least one year, is better IMO for player development. A lot of players who get drafted even after playing a few years in college, end up in the D-League anyways. There's a lot of experience gained in playing at least a year incollegebasketball, because there are more players at your level, or better. In High School, obviously there are TONS of players who won't even get drafted by colleges, or make it to the NBA.
Yes, you should be able to play basketball straight from high school. College is NOT about developing basketball skills it is about an education. If you are talented enough then sure go ahead enter the draft. If you playcollegeball I believe that even if you get taken into the NBA, you should come over the summers

and complete your degree. So yes, you should be able to play basketball straight from high school.
I think that you should be able to. Some of the best players we have right now were lucky enough to play right out of high school (Kobe Bryant) and I don't think that it has affect their performance on and off the court at all. Some of these high school players could be just what some teams need (the heat, the timberwolves, etc.) College for some players is just a waste of time and money if they are going to leave anyway to play in the NBA%26gt; also some great players may never make it to the NBA with acollegerequirement because they don't have the finances or grades to get into college. This is just my opinion, I hope it helps.
yes becuz some of the best players in nba history came out of highschool like kobe lebron garnett(all mvp canidates) bynum and amir johnson are going to be great centers when they get older
Yes I think you should be able to. If you're that good and you want to skipcollegefor the pros then do it. I think its alright.
I don't think so. I've noticed there's something that happens around 20 or 21 yrs old, where the the real world really starts to settle in on you. You start seeing things in front of you clearly and thinking a lot more logically. I don't think a KID at age 18 should be allowed to play a professional sport where they're making millions. They don't know how to handle their money and they need to learn how to play a team sport on a more mature level first, i.e. college. And look at Koby Bryant......he still doesn't know how to play team ball cause he never had a chance to learn how to play real team ball in college.
I don't know about that. I have a high schooler and even if he was a phenom at basketball, I would discourage him from skippingcollegeat all cost.

Let's face it: Not every good player - with no other career to fall back on, will become the next Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett.

There should be a law or restriction agains this.
No. I think that one should have to go tocollegebefore they are eligible for the NBA draft. Not necessarily go four years and graduate, but at least attend for 2 years. The may be great players coming out of high school, but there is always room for improvement and they may become phenomenal players during theircollegecareers. Not only that, but lots of kids look up to these basketball stars, and they should want to set an example of success both on the court and off.
Yes, basketball players should be able to get a job out of high school if they can compete at the same level. Otherwise, it's really age discrimnation since acollegeeducation is really not required to excel in that job. Just look at Kobe, and I'm not even a Kobe fan...
i think that you should...

i think the reason why the NBA wants people to play at least one year ofcollegeis

a) so they have the experience ofcollegebasketball and have the time to work on their skills there

b) so they get an education

these are good reasons but i don't think it is the NBA's place to force kids to do this. it is everyone's choice whether or not they want to pursue a higher education and some people are so good that the year incollegewouldn't help them as much as a year in the NBA so that's why i disagree with that rule.
NO. Four years ofcollegefirst with a Graduation degree than you can go play basketball for minimum wage not millions of dollars. basketball is a sport not a job.
I think there should be a minor league system and not just a half-*** one but a full one where teams can have their very own system.. College basketball won't be ruined, look at the College World Series for baseball.

College athletes who hate school are clogging up the admissions and taking spots away from people who deserve to be in school.

Plus an athlete should be able pursue their own career.
YES YOU SHOULD... If you already a great player in HS and playing basketball is all you want to do in your life then you should be able to play in the NBA from HS. It's already done, why change it now. Most of the best player in the NBA right now are from HS like;

K.Garnett

L.James

K.Bryant

T-Mac

A.Stoudemire

J.O'Neal

E.Curry

A.Bynum

D.Miles

A.Harringtong

R.Lewis

T.Chandler

D.Howard

M.Ellis

G.Green

S. Livingston

J.R. Smith

D. Stevenson

D. Milicic

S. Kemp

M.Malone

and

D.Dawkins.

Should I keep going? All these player have had given the chance to play in the NBA from HS and look at them now...Some of them already got a ring and already in the Hall of Fame. So, if you're a great basketball player in high school you dhould be able to play in the NBA if thats what u really want to do.
yes you should be able to but pro scouts arnt looking

Is there any truth to the saying "First team to 100 wins" in pro basketball?

"First team to 100 wins" is a oft-said saying in basketball. Is there any truth to it statistically?

Is there any truth to the saying "First team to 100 wins" in pro basketball?nba lottery

It is a fairly good rule of thumb. In a lot of games, the score does not get to 100 points, usually it stays in the 90's. So, if a team does get there, and gets there for first, its usually towards the very end of the 4th quarter. Of course, the exception is usually the Phoenix Suns, who can score 100 points at will, but can also give up over 100 points because they don't play defense.

Why do pro basketball players chew gum whilst playing?

I'd be scared that they might be going up for a dunk and get slapped in the face and choke on the gum... do they just swallow the gum? Where do they hide it in their mouth?

Why do pro basketball players chew gum whilst playing?nba trade rumors

When breathing open-mouthed for several hours, the mouth becomes dry and parched...and thirst develops. Chewing gum works the salivary glands

and stimulates the production of spit...keeping the mouth moist.

Why do pro basketball players chew gum whilst playing?nba standings ,nba teams

I never really knew they chewed while playing.I wouldn't chew coz you can bite your tongue or something.
i dont know about pro ball, but i play for my highschool, and we all chew gum. I put it in the side of my mouth... it helps keep my mouth moist i guess, and i have something to chew on when i get "pumped"....make sense? haha
Maybe to keep from having a dry mouth they chew gum. They are moving a lot and only get a drink when there is a timeout
Because cookies get crumbs all over the floor.
c'mon...they do it to look cool. of course, mj was the first bball player that i remember seeing chewing gum while playing. so just like verything else he does...everyone else wants to be like mike.
i agree with heh8me2. it is probably because they can't drink while playing so that is how they keep there mouths moist and not all dry so they can keep playing. they probably put the gum to the side of there mouth and keep it there so they won't swallow it.

Who is the greatest defensive player in the history of pro basketball?

I would say Bill Russell. How about you?

Who is the greatest defensive player in the history of pro basketball?nba ballers

I have to agree. Bill Russell changed the way the game was played by blocking shots and directing them towards his teammates instead of just swatting them into the stands like so many players today seem to want to do. His blocked shots led to fast breaks and points on the offensive end.

Who is the greatest defensive player in the history of pro basketball?nba draft lottery ,nba teams

I agree: Bill Russell it is!

Bill is a "large" guy, but his size did not deprive him of the quickness he needed to be a great defender. He was one of the first marquee players who specialized in defense. He certainly scored his points, but he really introduced the concept of defense-defense-defense! to the NBA.
Bill Russell
It would have to be Bill Russell.....but I don't think that Rodman got enough credit as well.
Russell was playing against slow white dudes that shot their lay-ups like ballerinas. i say ben wallace.
Bruce Bowen. I think any time you can successfully piss your opponent off, you've done your job. He's not dirty, just an excellent pest.
I like Dennis Rodman. Yea he was a freak but he was a machine. and he added a much needed toughness to teams.
Ron Artest, hahah
Bill Russell, without a doubt. Not only did he block shots, he kept them in play and frequently swatted them to teammates leading to easy fast break baskets. Today, most shot blockers swat it into the third row and pump their chests, while (duh!) the other team still has possession of the ball!

Number 2--a very underrated guy--Bobby Jones, who had the nickname, "The Secretary of Defense."

Student athletes lose their elgibility in the United States when they make it to the day of the NBA draft and they are drafted but not signed to a team. They can also tryout for teams beforecollegebut not once after they enter college. I have included a NCAA link on the subject.

Is the Basketball hoop set at the same height for both Pro and Amateur Players? Why?

I have often wondered why the very tall pro Basketball players (who are often the same height as the hoop) get to play with such a huge advantage. Shouldn't pro hoops have the same height difference as you see, for example, in a high school game with average-height players, where the hoop is way over their heads? Wouldn't it take more skill, then?

Is the Basketball hoop set at the same height for both Pro and Amateur Players? Why?nba playoff schedule

It is a good thought to have the professional hoop higher, but that would take away a lot of exciting dunks, and the NBA does not want to lose any excitement. It is a business.

Is the Basketball hoop set at the same height for both Pro and Amateur Players? Why?nba shop ,nba teams

All regulation basketball goals are set at 10 feet in height. If you see any "very tall pro basketball players who are the same height as the hoop," please contact the people at the Guiness Book of World Records immediately.
The basketball rim is set at 10 ft tall. This standard for the game of basketball unless we are talking about under age teams with 6yr olds or younger. They are lowered for them.

Plus, if the rims were set at different heights,we wouldn't be playing an International tournaments. It would be unfair to have our pros change their game to a "shorter" rim.

I still think it is weird that we have to change to international rules for tournaments / olympics even though we (america) invented the game....
The height for all regulation basketball rims is 10 feet. I feel that on the proffessional level, the height should be raised to 12 feet because the players are just too big. 6'5" is considered small!!
It would, but everyone just adheres to the standard set by the inventor of bball whnere the peach basket was 10 ft.
its supposed to be 10 foot for everywhere but all goals especially at the high school level are not exactly 10 feet - and 2 or3 inches turns into miles when you are trying to jump up there to it - i had a friend that played incollegefor a small school and said mostcollegegyms the rim height was inconsistent too

How long do pro basketball games usually last?

About how many hours does a televised pro basketball game usually last?

How long do pro basketball games usually last?nba power rankings

2 hours at 20 minutes.

2.5 hours is the time I allocate to watching a full, televised professional basketball game, including the 10 minutes before tipoff and some post-game interviews.

A slow game (with lots of interruptions, fouls, timeouts, etc.) in addition to potential overtime can push it to or above 2.5 hours, but this is rare. If you allocate 2.5 hours, you will be fine!

How long do pro basketball games usually last?nba ballers ,nba teams

like 2-3 hours, but if theres over time then it's probably 3 hours and 30 mins
depends, without overtime of 5 minutes, it's 2.5 hr. If there's overtime, with it's commercial breaks it's a little above 2.5 hrs. more like 2 hr. 45 min.
It's 4 quarters of 12 minutes. Overall 48 minutes. Sometimes thing get delayed or people get hurt go it should originally be 2 hours 30 minutes but if stuff goes wrong like i just mentioned..it will be between 2 - 3 hours. Unless they go into overtime which is 5 minutes per 1. 53 minutes for 1 full game and one full overtime which sometimes happens alot. So you ask where all the hours come from in a short period of basketball time?... it's the fouls and the timeouts and the end of the quarters and half time which take out lots and lots of time.
around 2 hours
About two, two and a half hours....interesting question
Usually, a little over two hours, but if it is televised, more like two and a half for the TV timeouts.
48 minutes -- four 12-minute quarters. Overtimes are 5 minutes apiece.
around 2 hours

half time is like a half an hour long

and quarter breaks r like 2 minutes long

and they also over exxaggerate on the 20 second timeouts

they give them like 40 seconds on the 20 second timeouts because they have to do commercials

so it all rounds up to about 2 hours

2.5 hours tops

In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith,[1] a Canadian physical education student and instructor at YMCA Training School[2] (today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters to keep the students in shape.

The first official game was played in the YMCA gymnasium on January 20, 1892 with nine players and the game ended at 1-0 and the shot was made from 25 feet

Women's basketball began in 1892.

The first pro league, the National Basketball League, was formed in 1898 to protect players from exploitation and to promote a less rough game
basketball was invented in 1946, the ABA was founded by Murice Loofer in 1957. The ABA later combined with NBA to form the league today in late 60's.

Not really sure about superstars, doubt they even have that word back then, but you can probably search who is the 1st player named to the 50 greatest player.
Right after WW2, the pro league started. Mikan was the first pro superstar coz' before him the league was not as recognized yet as baseball. He was the white 7 feet behemoth, unstoppable until the very first black superstar, Russell, came %26amp; dominated basketball for a decade. If ya can buy a cd NBA at 50, it will prove what I mean. You'd enjoy it to thae max

Good times bro
The NBL (National basketball league) started in 1937, and continued until the NBA began in 1947. There were also leagues in Pennsylvania in 1910s and 20s, but as far as superstars, there's no names I can recognize as well as Mikan's.
the NBA started in 1946. the first superstar was george mikan of the minneapolis lakers. he dominated the 1950s.
George Mikan, first great Center, he played for the Lakers from the inception of the NBA in 1946 to the mid 50's i believe

What do you think about a recent statement made by a retired pro basketball player?

Hardaway said he hated gays and was homophobic.

How did that hurt anyone?

He voiced his opinion, big deal.

There are millions of people out there that would tell you the same thing, but since it was Hardaway, the media just blew it up into a huge deal.

I didn't see the gay community in this country riot in the steets or anything, I doubt they care.

Political correctness is gettin way out of hand.

I think he should do a commercial like Gieco does with the cavemen. It would be hilarious.

He could have gays coming to him complaining about what he said like the cavemen do in the commercials,

could be a way he could make some $$.

What do you think about a recent statement made by a retired pro basketball player?nba finals 2007

Whether you like gays, or you don't like gays. Everyone has the right to voice his own opinion...are you talking about the actual gay guy who admitted he was gay, or the other guy who said he hates gays

What do you think about a recent statement made by a retired pro basketball player?www.nba.com ,nba teams

no, no, no. arnamechi is the retired one. hardaway, the one who said all that stupidness about hating gays stills plays
he's a p**sy for not doing it while he was playing
a lot of retired players make statements. Be a little more specific. If you mean Hardaways comments then who cares. Finally someone says what the rest are thinking. He took the bullet for the rest of them.
I have to question his motives about why he is coming out with this now. I agree that he may only be doing it for money. Because if he really wanted to make a stand, he would have admitted it years ago while he was still playing. Maybe by now other gay players would not be so afraid to come out about their sexual orientation - although it has nothing to do with their sports careers.
uummm....what?
I comment John Ammechi for coming out. That was probably a difficult thing for him to do. I just wonder what would have happened if he had said this while he was playing. While I don't condone his lifestyle (religious reasons), I do respect the fact that he is his own person. He seems like he's a nice guy, so people should just leave him alone.

And on a side note, although Tim Hardaway had the right to voice his opinion on the matter, the way he said it was out of line. The only reason, he apologized is because he got caught saying what he said on national TV. He even said he wouldn't speak to a relative if they were gay. That just goes to show how he really feels.
My thoughts are "How Convenient"- I could care less on whether he is gay or not, I have never got the whole gay thing but different strokes for different folks I guess BUT nobody has mentioned how ironic that he is coming out in the form of a book. Self serving greedy homosexual or a sly business move. According to which way you look at it, but for the gays to be hailing him for coming out, they are the ones who should be least thrilled because he isn't coming out because of gay pride, he is coming out for the almighty $$$. Once again the gays get bent over. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
even though some people are like that, since u are a basketball star u can not talk about some one being gay
we live in america.... everyone can voice his opinion...
Who are we talking about now, and what did he say?

Who is the best Pro Basketball Player out of Lebron James,Kobe Bryant,Carmelo Anthony, and Dwayne Wad

I think its Lebron James. All of them are good no doubt, but I think Lebron James is the best. His defense is like How Jordan's defense use to be,and offense might be just as good as Jordan's if not better.Everybody knows Michael Jordan was the best to ever play the game.So thats why i say Lebron is the best out of all of them, and maybe in the whole NBA.

Yes I say Lebron James. He reminds me of Larry Bird with his stat line. Michael Jordan was one of the best players ever but I say look at the record book and Wilt Chamberlain has most of the records. He could do it all.
In the overall its gotta be kobe. i think we'd hear more about dwayne wade were it not for his injuries and the rest of the team falling apart. his performance in the 2006 playoffs was just insane.
Kobe... can you say 81!
Lebron can't be the best. Kobe has 3 rings and he scored 81. D-wade has a ring too. Lebron won the East last year but that isn't a big deal. He is a great player, but right now you have to say Kobe is the best. I don't even like him(suns fan since birth) but you got to give credit where credit is due.
lebron i def agree on everyting u said
LeBron James
kobe
Kobe, everyone always says that he happens to be selfish but thats not the case, he has been passing well lately, how come when you got Wade shooting 30 shots a game or Carmelo shooting that many its fine, but when Kobe goes over 20 hes selfish, i dont gett he media or people to say he is. I mean yea he used to be but hes changed his ways the past couple of years because he wants a title.
Lebron vs. Kobe

Shooting: Kobe

Dunking: Lebron

Defense: Kobe

Passing Ability: Lebron

I think Kobe is a tad bit better overall, but Lebron is definately fun to watch.

I think Lebron is much more exciting to watch.
Kobe's better
Kobe even though he is selfish

Lebron is overated

Wade just flops

Carmelo plays no D

The NBA sucks, March Madness is almost here!
kobe is better all around then lebron, not stat wise. but offense and defence. nobody else can be mention besides ai. in the last 10 yrs kobe and ai has been the best gaurds in the league they have done the most for there teams. you could put mac in there but injuries has killed his chance.
I would lean towards Kobe. I think he's a better outside shooter. LeBron tends to be streaky. LeBron passes better. I think both play good d.
Kobe Bryant. Good defender and can score 40 points everynight if he wanted to.
I would say Kobe just because he has that killer instinct that Lebron lacks. Carmelo is good but not as good as Kobe or Lebron. Wade is an awesome player, better then Carmelo and behing Kobe and Lebron but I can't remember when he actually played a full season, probably back at Marquette.
Personally this question makes me wanna blow up every time I see people's answers! It's always between Kobe and Lebron EVERY SINGLE TIME! Ya know why? First of all Kobe's been in the league the longest. (11 years) Lebron is fliipin 6'8 and 250 lbs! Kobe is 6'6 and 222 lbs. Carmelo is 6'8 and 230 lbs. DWYANE WADE is only 6'4 and 216 lbs! He is the smallest of all! Everybody leaves him out and saws how much better lebron is than him but what the heck??? Lebron weighs 34 more lbs and 4 inches taller!!!! Dwade has better ball control passing mid range jump shot and slaher. lebron has a better perimeter game and dunks. Stop hatin on dwade.
I am a big fan of Lebron and I would be inclined to agree with you. I do think Kobe is an exceptional player and I would be hard pressed to put him in a second place position. It is a hard call. Lebron by a nose!!!
My baby Carmelo

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?

BEATING DEFENSIVE PRESSURE

What do you do when a defender gets up in your grill, and pressures you with extreme body-to-body pressure? He's frustrating you, taking you out of your rhythm and ability to square up to the goal. For some players, their best basketball moves simply won't work in this situation. So most players just pass, or dribble backwards, or even worse back up on their heels and lose their ability to attack. The result is often a turnover. And this is exactly what the defense wants.

But, as Coach Torbett says, you must not show fear. “You must meet pressure with aggression.” If the defense plays you this tight, you must make him pay by driving past him, straight to the goal. The question is, how do you do it? How do you drive past a defender who won't even allow you to get into the Triple Attack Position?

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?nba free agents

The answer lies in the Quadruple Attack Position. Your coach may not know this. That means there are 4 things you can do with the ball. The 4th thing = fake and that's the key. Shot, pass and foot fakes.

Your defender is playing ultra aggressive. Dribbling backwards does nothing except tell him that what he is doing is bothering you. You don't want to dribble EVER until he makes the first move. Make a good pass fake and watch his reaction. That means no matter how much the pressure, you MUST be facing him. If he moves a step or even leans in the direction of the fake. you dribble by him on the opposite side. Use what I call an 'explode' dribble by getting the ball out on the floor. You can take one stride legally when you dribble which is around 5-6'. Your dribble must be out past your stride by another 5-6'. Practice this. I have my students start about six feet out beyond the 3-pt arc. From there they are expected to get to the basket in just one dribble and lay it in. At first they look at me like I'm crazy. But with a little practice they find they can do it.

A good fake will at least get him off balance, then one dribble gets you past him and you go to the hole or pull up and shoot the 'J'.

You must practice your fakes (use a full length mirror for this) until they look realistic. Then he won't get close to you again. By the way, not wearing deodorant also helps you create the space you need.

I need a real basketball pro to answer this question?nba logo ,nba teams

when u are already using your driblle get low and protect the ball then relax your body because then the defnse relaxes then use a burst of speed to turn the corner. then when u go by them switch hands so they dont reach from behind when u attack the baskets stay under controll because u may have open teamates under the basket rady to finish with a bucket and if there good a dunk. in the triple threat position if they are forcing you in a direction go the other way and attack their lead foot because then they must turn before they can even think to run with you. use a lot of jab steps and use differnt basketball tapes rick torbert is an idiot i should say that i just dont like his methods. listen to me i played varsity as a freshman last year
That is kind of a vague question as no position or situation is specifically described.

Basketball is a team game, so there are so many options that a book could be written about this one scenario.

First, the best way to avoid this situation is never to get in this situation.

Second, playing team offense, a pass is a good way out of this situation and then run around using screens trying to rub this guy off if you want the ball back.

Second (part II), playing team offense, use a screen to rub this guy off of you.

Third, shoot a jumper over the defender and hit nothing but net. This will get his attention. I mean is the defender Superman or something.

Fourth, as the defender is so close, it should be somewhat easy for a decent basketball player to get by the defender as the offensive player can go either left or right and the defender never knows what the offensive player is going to do.

So, some times you will just have to pull up and take a jumper over the defender. If you can't do this, then either you are playing the best defender around or you haven't spent enough time practicing your personal game.

Next option is blow past this guy either to his left or his right at full speed, stop on a dime, and pull up for a mid range jumper.

Next option is blow past this guy either to his left or his right at full speed and go all of the way to the hole where you have to be good enough to get the ball in the hole over maybe some 6' 11" defender who is moving over to help out.

As part of the first option which is just to shoot the ball, I personally always liked the behind the back dribble to get the ball on whichever side you want to shoot from and shoot either a straight up jumper or a fade away jumper, but I only had to do this once or twice in a game situation.

The best shot I ever saw from the perimeter was by an extremely pressured and closely guarded Brian Winters shooting a behind the back dribble fade away three point jumper several feet behind the three point line to hit nothing but net at the buzzer to send the game either into the first overtime or second overtime where Milwaukee eventually lost in three overtimes.

Hey, if you can't do stuff like this, then you haven't done enough individual practice daily, every day for years.

Yeah, if you are the average player who does not do a lot of individual practice, then you are not going to be able to handle a situation like this.

Basketball is a team game and there are things like screens or passing the ball to one of the other 4 players on the team who will have a better opportunity to score.

I mean if you are playing the best defensive player around, you will have to do a lot of work and moving without the ball and using screens from teammates if you want to be the one who scores.

But, who says you have to be the one who tries to take every shot?

Okay, if you are playing 1 on 1, then that is different, and blowing by the guy to either take a mid range jump shot or going all of the way to the hole should be done fairly easily.

It takes a lot of individual practice time to improve a game to handle the "extreme pressure" situations, but it can be done.

Anything can be done and overcome, but it requires a lot of skill which can only be obtained from a ton of individual practice.

I do agree that you cannot and should not show fear particularly if you have practiced enough of your individual skills. Even not showing fear but having fear inside is as bad as showing fear. You have to be good enough to beat any defender, or otherwise, why even bother to walk onto a basketball court.

I definitely do not agree that you must meet pressure with aggression unless you call putting the ball in the hole aggression. You beat anything in basketball the easiest way by scoring.

Also, you do not always meet pressure with aggression. Like on a full court press, if that is ever played anymore since "The Wizard of Westwood" retired and before the advent of the "Hack a Shaq" defense, the best way to beat the pressure of a full court defense was to dribble into the strength of the full court defense in order to draw a double team as you want to attract the defensive double team in kind of a "Venus Fly Trap" manner, but the offensive player must pass to the open offensive teammate just a fraction of a second before the double team meets the original offensive player. I would call this beating pressure by suckering the defense.

Yes, in football, you must meet pressure with aggression, but not in basketball as there are so many ways to beat pressure through both poise and teamwork.
You have to sometimes lower your shoulder if the D is playing that tight. If your best move isn't working, then you haven't practiced it good enough. The truth is, there is no miracle thing to break past the pressure. It is a matter of instinct and agression.
You copied that straight from the betterbasketball website. I bet Rick Barry knows the answer. :)
first off if he is up at you face and pressuring you

he probably is grabbing and pushing you too,

you need to create space first, if they get

physical you need to use your legs, hips, elbows

to knock them off, usually as Charles Barkley

says at the beginning of the game, just give them

a real good hard elbow to the chest so they

keep away from you.

no if he is not grabbing or pushing, cross-over

or miss direction plays work well to get the

space, fake left, go right, or even if you are

shooting, double pump to get them off their feet.

Use their aggression against them.

as far as often the result being turnover, not true,

if you have good ball handling skills, and are

a physically strong player, you can dribble inside

and draw the fouls and make the shots. So do

weights, and work on your ball handling skills.

but my advice is knock them off on their behind

at the beginning so they keep their distance.

it really is about who control the game, if you

let him ride you, its all over.
This may sound easier said than done, it is all about a good first step.

Pass the ball up and demand for it back.

Receive the ball with both hands, and secure it.

Don't dribble until you gather yourself from receiving the ball and is facing the net and know where all other 8 players are.

As long as you still have your first step, you should be able to get by any tight coverage if you are a decent player.

The defense may back off because you never dribble yet to prevent this, if this is the case, do a fake shot attempt, to suck him in, then either go up to draw a foul or go by him.

You need to have hand just like George Costanza said so in Seinfeld (Although his situation is for breaking up). As long as you have not start dribbling, you have hand as the offensive player.
its kinda complicated but u gotta make him think that you are at his mercy

Play it like his defense is overwhelming and then just give a quick jab step

if the defender is that much up on you then he will go for it every time and u will make him look like a fool
Ask someone to give you a screen then drive then pop back out to the screener and let im shoot. But if you're a Gilbert Arenas, shoot behind the screener or do a running jumper or fade away shot.
Well if your a righty make sure you get low and bend ur knees then give the defender a little jab step, if he doesnt back off for righties take your left foot cross the opponets body then make sure you re left foot is in front of his left foot, which is in defense position.then turn your shouders in front of the defender and burst..once your shoulder is front of thedefender he cannot get back in position and the only way to stop you is to foul you....probally going to need to read it more then once but effective.
Pick and Roll and Ball screen is your best bet. Also, they are at the risk of getting into foul trouble if they are playing airtight. So try to initiate the contact as your last resort, but don't force it, or it will be an offensive foul.

You have to have a killer crossover if you wanna take that kind of defender one - on - one.

Like I said before, pick and roll is the best option. It worked for Malone and Stockton, and works for most teams.

triple attack is kind of a complicated strategy in pressure defense, specially man 2 man. but coupled with a pick, it can work.
yeah coach is right "you must meet presure with agression" soooo tackle.I I mean "stick" the mutha fuka with your shoulders in his chest.it works for me and i get to the basket easy.go Rockets!!!
Try to get the ball in a triple threat position. Face him. Try a fake step to create seperation. If you sell it you got him. As he recovers you can do any number of things. Fake a shot to get him to reach and then blow by him. If you are a confident shooter with the skill enough to shoot with a hand in you face, that seperation can get you the look. But the idea is to get him in a recovery position. This should be pretty easy to do since he is over playing you anyway. The harder and closer he is playing you the the faster and more dramatic his reactions have to be to keep up. And this is the advantage. I hope this helps. It should be alot easier to show you though. Remember: They can't stop me EVER. No Way, No How. This is my House!!!
whatever u do dont let him get in ur head. make him fear u. dont be intimidated. always keep the defender guessing. its very simple, if the defender is all up in ur grill and playing u tight, pull a pump fake and drive on him. dont be afraid to be physical. if he's playing loose, fake a drive and pull for the J. u can always use ur body to catch the ball (watch Kobe). once u do, bring the ball and low and be in the triple attack position. there are a wide array of moves to do: jab steps, pump fakes, crossovers. Use ur STRENGTH to drive. there are many moves: power hops, spins, etc. just watch videos of great players: michael jordan, kobe, dwyane wade, etc. good luck.
Get low protect the ball stick your head out and work on your strength and speed.

Is pro basketball violence worse and more frequent than pro hockey violence?

Worse, sometimes, yes; more frequent, no. You don't see players like Ron Artest jumping into the stands, or Dennis Rodman kicking some cameraman in the groin too often, especially in hockey. After two hockey players fight, the score is settled and they move on. That's the worst violence in modern pro hockey. With basketball players, I get the feeling that they hold their grudges, especially with guys like Iverson. They may not fight on the court again, but the animosity is there.

Is pro basketball violence worse and more frequent than pro hockey violence?nba updates

Fan and player violence is what makes basketball worse than hockey but really the only thing that prevents a hockey player from swinging his stick on to the head of an offending fan is the glass cages.

Violence in hockey games are more frequent and theoretically as worse as basketball.

But if you really want sport violence, look no further than football (soccer) matches.

no, it isn't.

Well while fighting is part of hockey and it happens more often than in basketball. BUT, basketball violence is definitely way worse. Think of the Indiana Pacer/Detroit Pistons game with the huge brawl. And there is a lot more fights in basketball where the benches clear and all hell breaks loose. The Pacers/Pistons thing though will take the cake for the worst, for a long time to come, but the frequency is definitely hockey.
no way. remember "i went to a fight and a hockey game broke out" since it doesn't happen as often in the NBA the media tends to overglorify it.

Sports is the real distraction. Get yourself a public library card and learn about art, music and culture. Improve your mind instead of wasting it watching sports.
Known as thunder sticks, they are somewhat useful to wave at free throw shooters
That's the whole purpose of it, to distract.
The stadium actually passes them out to fans.
I think that the players are too involved with playing the game to realize any distractions. and i dont think that watching sports is a waste of time!

I don't know. He's the AP Player of the Year, National Player of the Year, ACC Player of the year, 3 time All ACC First team, 3 time All-American, and a few minutes ago, picked up the Chevrolet National Player of the Year. Travis Knight was one of the worst I've ever seen, and still walked away with more money than most will ever see. And Tyler is WAY better than him.
He has great work ethic, but he won't be anywhere near as dominating once he gets into the NBA.
He will not be strong enough to handle the grind of the NBA.

He will be a good journey man but not even close to a great pro.

He will be like a Keith Van Horn, C. Lattaner.

Great in College but will not fare well in the Pro.

His games is not build for the pro.

Hmm what happen to JJ Reddick, Bobby Hurley, and Adam Morrison?
I think he's going to do great once he's in the NBA. It's just going to take him a while to get used to the stronger, more skilled, professional guys. I don't want Tyler to be like Sean May, a formal UNC player. May has been injured for a long time when he played for Charlotte Bobcats.
I like the Duke fan's answere above - people always hate on the great.

Hansborough will enjoy a nice long career in the NBA. He won't be a superstar, but I think he'll surprise some people. He's a big guy who can hit jumpers, handle the ball, and get up and down the court. He will probably be the hardest worker in the NBA.
people always hate on the best.

I'm a Duke fan but Hansbrough is great i gotta admit.
I think he is going to do great

Hello! I like your ambitious personality! I think you can make it there. MJ said that with devotion you can make it. Believe me.

If you do make it to the NBA, perhaps you'll have to focus on being a good point guard now. Also, to reach NBA standards and become a good shooter, coaches say that we shoot 500 to 1000 shots a day. Some excellent NBA players play from dawn to night when they're young (I can't remember if it's Magic Johnson; I read it from a book).

Don't let others pull you off-track, because they think they can't and try to affect your mentality. Just believe in yourself and show the coaches that you really want to make it.

People say it's hard but somethings aren't as hard as they seem. For example, a few days ago I bought five Duel Masters booster packs and I got a Bolmeteus Steel Dragon, the rarest and most valuable Duel Masters card printed by Wizards of the Coast. Others didn't believe they could get it, but I did-and got it.

3v3r43v3r, you can listen to Michael Bolton's "Go the Distance" or Elton John's "Measure of a Man" when you need inspiration.

All the best man!!
if you work hard and play well incollegeyou have a chance
It is very slim dude but don't feel discouraged. Work hard and keep that dream alive! Someday you might actually make it.
I think you can make it, but the reason why it's gonna be hard is because there is too much competition. I know some one who quick fast and dominates the inside, plus he's 6 "10", but he didn't reach the NBA. Don't feel discouraged. I do have some tips, If your a Gaurd focus on making plays, play with/for 50% fun 30% devotion 15%teamwork and 5% stats. Remember put your team first not you. I wish you good luck.
you have a 100% chance keep on going and ill buy you jersey
I think your good playing 3 hrs a day. Now, what you need to do is this: Make 500 jumpers before and 500 after playing. Practice your ball handling skills constantly, carry a basketball if you have to (dribble every place you can). Make sure that you work on your 'side to side' movement constantly. You want to be very fast going side to side to stop opposing point guards. Also, don't forget to join a track team (run sprints and long distance) and lift weights (medium muscle regimen) on top of all the practice I mentioned above. This should take all day after school. Oh yea...eat very healthy (high carbs, high proteins and no sugar). Drink 2 gallons of water per day. Almost forgot, listen to your coach and do this 5 days a week. Rest one day, but not on consecutive occasions and just chill out those days. On your days off, just make about 500 jumpers and 200 layups each day. Do it until the basket looks big and keep going til you reach your number.
Realistically, your chance is probably one in a million.

What pro basketball player was known as a relentless rebounder and effective scorer, and was the fir

the jump from high school to pro career?

PS: He gained several NBA accolades, including being named "One of the 50 Greates Players in NBA History."

What pro basketball player was known as a relentless rebounder and effective scorer, and was the first to makenba update

Moses Malone

What pro basketball player was known as a relentless rebounder and effective scorer, and was the first to makenba mock draft ,nba teams

lol was this a trivia question? because almost every person who is knowledgable about the NBA knows it was Moses Malone.

Who was the first person in pro basketball to break a backboard?

the first one I ever saw was Daryl(Chocolate Thunder) Dawkins of Doctor J's 76ers(he would name his dunks to sound like Parliment/funkadelic lyrics)...he shattered two, then they had to change the way and materials used to construct them...

Who was the first person in pro basketball to break a backboard?nba graphics

darrly dawkins dunked it and broke the hoop

Who was the first person in pro basketball to break a backboard?nba live 2007 ,nba teams

Me, In 1960 I am now 73, but back in I played for the now Lakers, I dunked it, and it fell almost on top of me, the hoops were not as nice as they are now.

Should I wear a pro football teams jersey to a pro basketball game?

I'm going to the Wizards game tonight and I've seen some people wear Redskins jerseys to other games that I've been to. Should I do this too since I don't have anything Wizards to wear?

Should I wear a pro football teams jersey to a pro basketball game?nba draft history

It does look a little awkward when wearing a football jersey to a basketball or baseball game. If you don't have any Wizards gear, I would just wear something that has the Wizards colors in your outfit.

But really .... you should go to the nearest sporting good store and pick up your "Agent 0" jersey !!!!!!!

Should I wear a pro football teams jersey to a pro basketball game?nba playoffs 2007 ,nba teams

are you famous? no? then don't worry about it. noone really cares.
Get a throwback Juwon Howard jersey to wear
You should wear something low cut and push up, to give the other sports fans something to look at while there's no action on the court.
why coitanly! lol anyway yeah i went to 76ers games and seen dudes w/ Eagles jerseys and Eagles games where ppl wore Phillies jerseys!
no please dont when i go to a game i allways make fun of the people that wear other teams jerseys becuse you were the team jersey or no jersey at all
Well, I've been to NBA games and people don't always wear clothing supporting their team. So I'm sure that'll be all right.

GO "AGENT 0" (Gilbert Arenas)
Yes it is ok.
Girls can wear whatever they want to a pro sporting event.
The only people wearing any jerseys at all should be the people on the court. Wearing some one else's jersey is something I will never understand.
You can wear whatever you want; it is not uncommon to see football jerseys at basketball or baseball games. Say hello to Hibachi for me!
Well it wouldn't hurt, but do u like the Redskins anyway?
I would not. but if you really want to go ahead.
I don't see why not, I mean BAsketball players wanna be football players and football players wanna be basketball players.

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?

I have around 500 10x10 patio stones and trying to figure out if I have enough to make a half court or at least till the top of thecollegekey with another 3 ft for shooting. What is the square footage of a half court basketball court?

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?nba statistics

Acollegeand pro court is 94'x50', which would be 4700 square feet. A full half court, then, would be 47'x50', or 2350 square feet.

Your 10"x10" patio stones, then, will not even come close to making a half court. If you go the full 50' wide, it will take 60 stones for each row across the court. Your 500 stones will make a court 50' wide by about 8' deep - you won't even be close to the free throw line. And 10"x10" patio blocks will probably result in many ankle injuries - I wouldn't particularly recommend this.

If the blocks are 10'x10' (ten foot by ten foot) rather than 10"x10" (ten inches by ten inches), I'm first trying to figure out how you are moving them. But at 10'x10', 500 stones would give you a full sized court, with a little space on the endlines.

How many square feet is a half court of a pro basketball court?nba store ,nba teams

Since a pro court is 4700 sq. ft. , a half pro court is 2350 sq. ft.

Who jumps higher on average, pro volleyball players or pro basketball players?

I've heard that volleyball players do, but I'm not sure.

And I mean vertical jump, not touch.

Who jumps higher on average, pro volleyball players or pro basketball players?nba salary cap

Basketball players, on average.

Who jumps higher on average, pro volleyball players or pro basketball players?nba rumors ,nba teams

Basketball because there are only 5 players on the Court at one time. Dividing by 5 is easier than dividing by 6 so averages are more plentiful.
Volleyball players, All The Way. No Contest.

One source says NBA players have average vertical leap of only 28." Another states most NBA players fall between 28" and 34." There have been some NBA players with awesome vertical leap like MJ, Spud Webb, Dominick Wilkins, Sean Kemp, Vince Carter and so on. These players created the stereotype that all NBA players can jump very high. However, there are not that many centers or power forwards who can jump high. These giants have standing reach of over 9 feet so they don't need to jump high to be able to dunk. They have the height and reach but not the jump.

In fact, pro basketball players have relatively short vertical jump. Athletes involved in explosive sports like football and Olympic lifting have much higher vertical leap.

Former US Olympic volleyball team member Steve Timmons had 46" of vertical jump and Cuban volleyball player Leonel Marshall is claimed to have 50" vertical. Even the top jumpers from NBA don't even come close. Kobe Bryant is one of the best jumpers in NBA and has 38." Athletes who can jump 40" or better are very rare in any sport.

This stereotype about NBA players having super vertical leap is just a myth that's statistically disproved.
i would think volleyball players..but it is a tight race... they both jump pretty high.
i wuold say vball players especailly the front row people cuz they are constantly jumping up to hit balls. thats what their position just does
A regular basketball players (No PF or C)
It depends, middle blockers probably jump higher, and outside hitters on an average. you know. but idk for sure!
VOLEYBall

represent
Volleyball players.

Their legs are trained to constant high jumps over a long period of time in order to deliver spikes. Compared to basketball players, who need momentum to make a high jump.

Also jumping is more essential in volleyball players especially those in front of the net. Basketball rely more on speed and accuracy not height and strength.
hate to say it but pro basketball players
basketball

average basketball players have 45 inch jump

vollyball averages 38 inches
Most pro basketball players can touch almost twelve feet. Outside hitters in volleyball are tought to hit over the top of the antenna to avoid a block, which is at eleven feet. Remember that basketball players are aiming for one spot every time. Volleyball players jump, hang and look at the court to see where they should hit. I'd say they are close but volleyball requires more finesse.
